Ramappa Temple
The
Ramalingeswara Temple which is popularly known as the Ramappa gudi (Temple). The Ramappa name became from its chief architect
(chief sculptor) Ramappa. This Temple located 19 km from Mulugu (28 Ramappa. This Temple located 19 km from Mulugu (28 km from Pathipally Village) and 77 km from Warangal in the Telangana State, India.
It’s
probably the only one temple in the country to be known by the name of its
architect (sculptor).
This is one of the beautiful
temples of kakatiya period built by Racherla rudra, a general
of kakatiya ganapati deva. According to a contemporary record this temple was
built in 1213 a.d. the temple stands on a raised platform with
garbhagriha, an antarla, and maha mandapa with lateral porched entrances on
three sides. The main entrance faces east.
The garbhagriha
contains a black basalt linga installed on a high pedestal inside over the
ceiling of the central ankana one finds a magnificient display of sculptures
depicting scenes from ramayana, siva purana and other mythological narratives. The
striking peculiarity of the building lies in the arrangement of bracket figures. Above the
kakshasena level decorated with slender, graceful mandanikas, naginis
etc. In different poses, the other units within the prakara are an imposing
nandi mandapa, kameswara and kateswara shrines.
The Ramappa temple stands on a 6 ft
high platform on a cruciform plan. The sanctum is crowned with a shikhara and
is surrounded by a pradakshinapatha. Rich and intricate carvings adorn the
walls, pillars and ceilings of this wonderful building. The hall in front of
the sanctum has numerous beautifully carved pillars that have been placed to
create an effect that combines light and space wonderfully. There are many
votive shrines within the temple. There are two subsidiary shrines on either
side of the main temple, which are in a good condition.

The
Nandi is facing the shrine of shiva. Most of the lord shiva temples the Nandi
will be in straight but the temples built by kakatiya dynasty the nandi is in
alert position and waiting for the order of shiva.

The
Ramappa Temple bricks are light weighted and it will flow in the water. If we
hit the stones and pillars we can hear
the music Every pillar have
sculpture figures drawn from Hindu mythology.
The Temple Grabalayam (Roof) was built
by Light weighted bricks and it will flow in the water.
Maha Shiva Ratri is
celebrated for a period of three days in this Temple every year.
Palampet is located at a
distance of 77 km from Warangal, the ancient capital of the Kakatiyas. It is
home to brilliant Kakatiya art as seen in the Ramappa temple. The Ramappa
temple is near the ancient engineering marvel of the 13th century AD Ramappa
tank. The ancient Ramappa tank can be dated back to the period of Kakatiyas. It
is a well-conceived tank where a 2000 ft long earthen dam connects a semi
circular chain of hills to form a lake.

Best time
to visit: The best time to visit the city and the temple is
between the months of October and April.
Timings: The
temple remains open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Ramappa temple is located in Palampet, Venkatapur mandal which is 19
km far from Mulugu Mandal
(50 km off Warangal Town).
It is 6 km away from
kotagulla where another shiva temple located.
From Warangal District 77 kms,
From Hyderabad it has 157 kms.
There are no train routes to reach temple directly. Near Railway stations are Hanamakonda and
Warangal
After reaching Hanamakonda Bus Stand so many buses are there to travel
Ramappa Temple.
